Emergency First Response Course with PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider (Optional)

What is it?

This EFR (Emergency First Response) course may be combined with the PADI Emergency Oxygen Provider (EOP) specialty. (Counts towards PADI Master Scuba Diver)

During the EOP course, you will learn the administration of emergency oxygen and practice the use of the SUCI “Manually Triggered Resuscitator Valve”. This valve permits the positive pressure ventilation of a non-breathing victim and is a special part of the SUCI oxygen kit.

The Emergency First Response (EFR) course teaches you how to respond to life-threatening emergencies. The course focuses on both Primary and Secondary Care, through a combination of knowledge development, skill development, and realistic scenario practice, ensuring you have the confidence you need to provide care when an emergency arises.

Primary Care skills taught in this course:

  • Scene Assessment, Barrier Use, Primary Assessment, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Serious Bleeding Management, Shock Management, Spinal Injury Management, Conscious and Unconscious Choking Management. 
  • Additional Skills covered in the EFR course include Automated External Defibrillator (AED) use.

Secondary Care skills (first aid) taught in this course include:

  • Bandaging, splinting, illness/injury differentiation

Why should I take it?

  • Give back to the club by becoming EFR certified and being a pool lifeguard
  • Keep your skills current by recertifying every 2 years
  • EFR Certification is the recommended CPR/First Aid course for Rescue divers
  • Considering becoming a Divemaster? To continue your diving education with the PADI Divemaster course, you must have current EFR certification
  • All PADI Pros must have current EFR certification to maintain their PADI Pro status
  • In the Emergency Oxygen Provider course, you will learn and practice the use of the SUCI "Manually Triggered Resuscitator Valve".

How much does it cost?

  • If you are just re-certifying EFR and have the 2012 or later EFR manual and a pocket mask, the cost is $105. 
        
    Re-Certifying participants may use their previous materials and will study the EFR Manual before the course and taking the exam. 
        Re-Certifying participants who are already EOP certified, need not repeat the course but may participate. (Refresher)
  • Course fee for both EFR and EOP: $155 plus materials. 
  • EFR course plus all the following materials is $165. 

          EFR manual $30
          Pocket mask and nitrile gloves $30 
          
If you have any of these materials e.g. pocket mask, deduct $30 for a total $135 etc. 

  • EOP materials: Emergency O2 Provider package: $50 
  • Please Note: 
    1. A $25 discount will be given to SUCI members who are signed up as Pool Supervisors for the balance of 2018. 

    2. Training courses with SUCI that are over $100 are tax deductible. Upon request, a tax receipt will be issued.

When is it?

  • Sunday April 15th, 2018 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM or 9:30 am - 6:00 pm if taking EFR plus the Emergency O2 provider course.
  • Those only taking Emergency Oxygen Provider only need to attend 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm. 
  • The course is the same for both recertifying and first-time participants. Recertifying participants will save the cost of required materials if their materials are up-to-date, i.e. text from 2012 or later.

    How do I prepare?
  • New participants must watch/own the EFR training video and study the manuals before attending the classroom session. The preparation will take approximately 6 hours.
  • Re-certifying participants should read their manual before the course date, to be prepared to take the exam.

       4. You must watch the video and read the manual prior to the date of the course. We suggest you make an early start on this!
