For those that attended the Shipwreck Symposium last April, we saw a great presentation by Scott Stitt
"In the early part of 1942, the outer banks of North Carolina were a battleground. German U-boats sank so many ships in these waters the area became known as “Torpedo Alley”."

1- Destination Morehead City, North Carolina
 
2- Dates: Tentative;
    a- Saturday, June 23 - June 30 or
    b- Friday, Oct 5-12 Seafood festival from October 6-8. Kinda like Taste of the Danforth
 
3- 1 stop 4-5 hours return flight from Pearson, Toronto to New Bern, North Carolina. New Bern is about 38 miles from Morehead City. Todays pricing for the June dates vary from $410 -$550CDN + fees.  October not available. Prices can vary widely depending on day of departure. You will reserve your own flight.
 
4- 10 dives, 2 per day. Boarding by 6am, return by 4pm. 2 hour trips to outer bank. Group pricing of 8-16 divers, 2 tank dives are $107US. Weights are included.
 
5- Tank rentals - Air $7.00US; $16.00 for nitrox which is recommended. Olympus can do different blends.
 
6- Full size vehicle rental - $340. I suggest 1 vehicle per 4 -5 people
 
7- Vis can be 50+ feet. 90-120 foot dives. 1.5- 2 hour surface interval. Water temp 75-79F.
 
8- Accommodations: Olympus owns "The Dive Lodge", http://www.olympusdiving.com/dive-center/the-lodge/.  $20 per person per night + 12.75% tax for 8-16 divers
   "The lodge has 32 bunks in five separate rooms. Three of the rooms contain eight bunks with the other two rooms having 4 bunks.  Quiet Time starts at 9:00PM.

Each bunk has a storage area for your dry gear.  Each guest will need to bring his or her own linens, typically a sleeping bag, pillowcase, and towel."

9- Olympus operates 2 boats. A 25 and 18 diver boat

10- Plenty of restaurants. Morehead is a small city with no much else to do. Beaufort has an historic museum

Description Kingston hosts one of North America’s largest concentrations of freshwater wrecks ranging from 18th-century paddle wheelers to modern tugs, tankers, and ferries. From the absolute novice to the most advanced and experienced technical diver there is a wreck in Kingston that matches your desire. The crew of ABUCS Dive Charters will get you there safely and comfortably aboard our meticulously maintained boats. We will charter the Yasmine and depart from Portsmouth Olympic Harbour in downtown Kingston. This is a “C” rated dive.

Tank fills are approximately $11 for Air and $20 for Nitrox at Explorer Diving at 2214 Paul Boulevard, Kingston. 20 minutes northeast of the city. Shop is open from 8:00am to 6:00 pm Mon. to Sun. Phone number is 613 328-5467.

 Driving Directions: Departure point is Portsmouth Olympic Harbour aboard the Jasmine. Take the 401 east to Kingston. Exit at Sir Joh A MacDonald. Travel into town and make a right on King Street West. Then a left on Yonge Street.

Directions to campground: Hwy 401 East to County Road 15 – Exit 623 – toward Smith’s Falls/Ottawa – turn left Go 2.1 km and turn left onto Cunningham Road.

Directions from campground to marina: 1. Head east on Cunningham Rd toward County Road 15 South 2. Turn right onto County Road 15 South 3. Take 1st left onto John F. Scott Rd 4. Continue onto Abbey Dawn Road 5. Turn left onto County Road 2 6. Turn right onto St. Lawrence Avenue 7. Destination will be on right.

- Ivy Lea Campground - Nestled in the Thousand Islands under and to the west of the Hwy 81 Bridge about 30 minutes from Kingston. For reservations:  https://secure.parks.on.ca/Reservations/IvyLeaCampsite?List 

Reservations can be made starting on February 24th, 2015 at 8:15 am. Call 1 800-437-2233 or 1 613-543-4328. Campsites go very quickly and require a credit card. Sites 105-109 are excellent for regular camping. The park has designated "diving" sites. Sites 73-76 and 86-87 are on a small hill. Site 84 is at the water level.

- KINGSTON MOTEL EAST; Hwy 15 (5-7 min from Downtown) Located on Hwy 15 near the 623 exit from 401. Approx. $114 per room dbl occupancy (+tax) 25 units. They will not take bookings for more than 3 months in advance. Contact Dale at 613-546-6674

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: The DM will be asking you for your passport information, in confidence. The info required is Full Name as is appears on your passport, M/F, DOB, Citizenship, Country of Residence and Passport #. They need to submit the info 1 week prior to departure.

Scuba Divers are Different Emergency Assistance Plan: English; French

Number of dives: 5; 2 on the US side and 3 on the Cdn side. For divers arriving on Friday, you can do a shore dive at Canteen Park.

Departure:

On Saturday we will use the Knot a Riverqueen, pictured below, which can accommodate up to 20 divers. Departure is 15 St. Andrew Street (Tall Ships Landing Marina). Parking is $10 at the Marina.

On Sunday, we will use the Emily C, 2nd picture below, and will depart from 31 Front Street, Andress Boat Works in Rockport, west of Brockville. This is about 20-25 minutes from Brockville. Free Parking. You can carpool. They do have wagons to transport your equipment from the cars to the boat.

   

Description  

3 tanks required. The 2 Sunday dives on the US side will be America, Keystorm aboard the Emily C. There will be 3 Canadian dives on Saturday aboard the Knot, a Riverqueen. Lunch will be provided on Saturday. Please let the DM know if you have any food allergies. DM's and Captain will choose from Robert Gaskin, Muscallonge, Lilly Parsons, DaryawTanks made by LUXOR must have an "Eddy" test performed within the past year so they can be filled. An "Eddy Test", tests the neck of the scuba tank.

We are diving with Abucs scubA Charters.

Brockville hosts a Rib Fest festival with great food and music. It starts on Thursday the 9th and ends on Sunday the 12th.
